What is nutritional therapy?

Nutritional Therapy  takes a holistic approach using diet, lifestyle and where required, nutritional supplements, to assist the body to achieve and maintain optimum health. Combining the latest scientific research and knowledge about human biochemistry, physiology and anatomy, naturopathic nutrition can help to stimulate and enhance the in-built healing power of your body.

The main principle of the therapy is to identify and address the underlying causes of the presenting symptoms based on the person as a whole.

Nutritional Therapists do not diagnose diseases, but use a number of tools to help find and assess biochemical, metabolic and nutritional imbalances that can contribute to individual symptoms and health problems.

Naturopathic Nutrition can effectively support those who suffer from chronic health problems. Chronic conditions often have one or more of the following symptoms: inflammation, pain and fatigue. Examples include:

  • Digestive Problems. (e.g. constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, IBS, reflux, food allergies/intolerances).
  • Weight problems. (e.g. weight gain/inability to lose weight, sugar cravings, blood sugar imbalances)
  • Cardio-vascular health. (e.g. raised cholesterol, high blood pressure, metabolic syndrome)
  • Hormonal imbalances/women’s health. (e.g. PMS, PCOS, menopause symptoms).
  • Skin Conditions. (e.g. acne, eczema, acne rosacea)
  • Mental health and  general wellbeing. (e.g. low energy, fatigue, anxiety, depression, poor concentration)
  • Autoimmune conditions. ( e.g. rheumatoid arthritis, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis).

Food is our source of energy

Food is our source of energy and it can promote our well-being and general health. However, a diet that may seem “healthy” for one person, may be completely inappropriate for someone else. The foods we choose to eat on a daily basis can have important effects related to disease susceptibility, physical and mental intellectual development, inflammation and immunity.

Whether these effects are taking us in a positive direction or a negative one depends on the choices we make. Eating the right foods can have a very beneficial effect on energy levels, brain function, appearance and immune status. My goal  is to encourage and educate clients to take control of their health and well-being.

“The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest
form of poison.” – Ann Wigmore
